I disagree. What's more, my wife disagrees. Ireland is on the right track when it comes to abortion. In my opinion it's just another sign of moral decay. If a woman does not want to become pregnant, she should behave accordingly. Heaven forbid anyone take responsibility for their actions in this day and age. There are so many out there that would adopt that child in a heartbeat.
Pb - I'm not sure what you mean by weather vane of moral direction, but religious figures have been held in high esteem when it comes to morality and ethics for thousands of years. Why is this surprising to you?
Obama did completely avoid the question - he knows that his support of partial birth abortion is against the vast majority of American sentiment.

. | I know your a man of faith and I respect that the Church helps direct those with questions or concerns about specific things and I believe they are sometime callous and uncaring
However my faith is that something out there created the Universe who or what I don't know but IMHO I sure the way this supreme being would not be proud of the way he is portrayed by the various religions over these eons . Every body saying there religion is better then mine . My Religion is the Golden Rule .

Country: | I am tried of people giving more value to an animals life than to a person's. Same goes for giving more rights to a serial murderer or terrorist than to an unborn baby.

| oh, touched a nerve. While I agree with this whole-heartedly, most of the animal laws in the country are misdemeanors even for animal cruelty. The only time you see some sort of outrage is when a high -profile case comes along and shows how lacking these laws are.
In most states someone who takes his ex-girlfriend's or ex-wife's dog, guts it and hangs it on the door will only get a fine. Sometimes the prosecutors have no clue what to do. White-collar crime is just as bad. Recently had a lawyer around here takes hundreds of thousands of Senior Citizens money for something and never did anything - stolen. He had to pay a fine, a small percentage of restitution and a few days in jail. Some of these people had their life-savings evaporated!
Laws are way too fluid.

| I agree that being cruel to an animal is a sign of cruelty towards people. However, the hippies who fight to not drill in Alaska (of the Gulf of Mexico), for fear of maybe (sometimes the animals like the warm pipelines) disrupting the habits of moose and fish; don't care that it will cost even more to heat your home (or not be able to afford to) .

| If the very strictly governed US oil companys don't drill, the uncaring Chinesse and Russian companys will. Guess which one cares about killing polar bears.
BTW, China is stealing our oil. There is a large oil pocket that goes into Floridan through Cuban waters. Cuba gave China the rights to drill in that pocket. Thousands are gone each day.

Country: | Kinda like the Northern Spotted Owl controversy. Especially since now with regulations in place, the population is still declining and the cause has been changed from logging to another owl, the Barred Owl.

Country: | Obama and Obiden. I just saw them hugging one another on TV, What a pair. It is all so phony. If the dimocrats wanted to nominate a black man, why not some one like Gene Upshaw who accomplished something in his life. I could consider voting for him. |

Country: | He just passed away this week.
Will this mean Mccain will nominate Ridge for Vp to get the PA vote?

At least the Biden nomination for VP will give McCain some good political ads. YouTube - Joe Biden On Barack Obama

Country: | As you and I know, watching the Biden train wreck for several years, it will be enjoyable and cringe-worthy.

Country: | Biden was an awesome choice IMHO would have been my choice for the Dems and I'll wager MCcain will opt for someone from the evangleist movement to nail that 25% of the vote
