Country: | Politcal Correctness gone strange yet again, Renaming Guy Gibson's Dog I do not know if this is correct or not. But last night at work I was informed by the Driver I was working with that a new chronicle movie is being made about the life of Guy Gibson of Dam Buster 617 Squadron RAF fame. The movie displays the life and times of Gibson and includes a section about his famed pet dog ******. The dog ****** was killed the very night of the Dam Buster Raid by a car before Gibson and his Squadron returned from raiding the Dams in Germany. Making the film is no problem. But according to my work mate Political correction had reared its head by renaming Gibson's dog as Trigger instead of ****** as not to offend others as it appears. Giving the time set period of the movie to change the name of the Dog in question is bizarre and reeks of total stupidity to say the least. Lets be able to admit ok the Dog was a Black Labador which Gibson himself named ******. Was the Dog itself morally outraged by the name ****** given to it by Gibson. No of course not it was by all sense a loyal family orientated dog a pet who sought the company of Gibson and befriended the man himself. Was Gibson politically incorrect calling his dog ****** by todays standards. Well by today's standard of political correctness yes he was. But that is today's standards not of the time the movie is set upon of the years of 1939 to 1945 during WW2 where political correctness was never mentioned or even heard about or discussed. Me thinks the Political Correct still need an Oral enema once again. Oh and to beat the censor program on this web site the Dogs name rythemed with Bigger but replace the B with an N

Country: | Yeah we've discussed the new Dam Busters movie before. Are you sure they are going to change to name of the dog? Has this been confirmed? Just asking because Peter Jackson, the producer, has said in past interviews that they want to keep this film historically acurate.

Country: | I think they should not change it. It was a part of history. We as humans have a habit of chaning history to better suit ourselves or not insult anyone. That is bullshit. Leave the name of the dog as is.

Country: | Changing the name for a movie does not change history, but unfortunately, too many people believe what they see on the screen, like the Americans captured the Enigma off a submarine, saved the world during the Battle of Britain, etc...
Let history be portrayed accurately, WE cannot judge things like this without the perspective of the timeframe. If you weren't there, you can't judge.

Country: | I'm amazed their still thinking of showing an actual attack by the Dambusters. Given the PC Nature of Hollywood, I would think they'd substitute a 3 Stooges Pie Fight in place.
Bunch of PC Assholes. |

Country: | They are a bunch of PC pricks, but once in a while, a gem pops out. Look at Flags and Letters from Iwo Jima. You get the right gang behind it, like Spielberg and Hanks, and you chances of it being more accurate are better. With Clint Eastwood directing, it will be a good one.

Country: | I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the dog's name were changed for the movie. Completely diSgusted like always at that sort of thing, but not the least bit surprised. |

Country: | I am unsure if the name change to the dog is factual. I am by all means going on second hand information from a work mate. But it wouldn't surprise me if the PC crowd had their way. Of course I am ed by any change of History to suit PC Attitudes. For 1 example when I was growing up in Australia what is now known as Victory in the Pacific was known as V.J Day Victory over Japan and V.E day was V.G day Victory over Germany. Maybe this was the start of PC going weird. But to change a dogs name 65 years after the event to suit a so called moral code is ridiculous to the extreme |

Country: | Don't forget that ****** was also the code word for the successful breach of one of the dams. Surely they won't change that bit of history as well?

Country: | I seem to remember that they changed it for the US release - not the Commonwealth one - of the original film, to "Trigger"; this has led to a number of North Americans, including some respected historians(!) repeating the name in their publications!
What bollocks. Nig-ger's grave at RAF Scampton is still there, and his headstone still has his name on.
