Country: | Québekers be proud ! We are the leaders... in suicide. Taken from http://www.cfcf12.ca/cfcf/news/cfcf : 1 in 10 Quebecers contemplated suicide: poll
A poll indicates that 10% of Quebecers have thought seriously about committing suicide.
The Leger Marketing survey shows rates are highest among the poor and unemployed.
Suicide is the leading cause of death among Quebecers under 40 year of age, ahead of AIDS and road accidents.
I can understand that... The province has a $100,000,000,000 (and I made no mistake on the number of zeroes) debt, is the more over-taxed province in North America (including each states of the USA), has no "true" health services and is led by facist morons. When we realize that our school system sucks and getting an equivalence for a Grade is hard as hell. Then I look at my future and I see nothing interresting. The lone way out is to find a job within a Federal Division (RCMP, Army, Correctionnal Services...) and get the f*ck out of here.
I want to get out so bad, that I'm even ready to enlist in the Foreign Legion. No matter here in a hospital or fighting on the front with them, my chances of survival are approximately the same. |

Country: | Why does this not surprise me?!? I feel for you Maestro - Although I had a good time when I was there (Saw the Canadiens win a Cup) there was no love lost when I saw that "bienvenue vers Québec" sign in my rear view mirror....

Country: | I have to say, that doesn't really surprise me much either. The Bloc is really doing a number on Québec and the entire country.
But at least you have Sunday shopping.
The only place left on the entire North American continent where it's illegal to open anything other than a drug store or corner store/gas station on a Sunday: Nova Scotia. Doing wonders for the tourism. |

Doing wonders for the tourism. | You got a point. But what's tourism when companies choose other provinces to open a factory/store because of our outrageous taxes and our Workers Unions that are stronger than anywhere else in North America ? Tourism is (in a financially powerful state like Ontario, Alberta or BC) only a bonus.
However, even if stores have the right to open on Sunday, a lot of them doesn't. Specially the small ones because it would be more expensive to keep it open than close it for the day. But most "big" stores remain open. Like Wal-Mart, Sears, La Baie (I think it's called "The Hudson Bay Company" in other provinces), Canadian Tires... But the fact that it's illegal in Nova-Scotia sucks... They should leave the decision to open or close their store to companies' Presidents. |

Country: | Hey I love Nova Scotia, don't get me wrong, but I'll be the first to admit that in many ways this province is stuck in the 1960's. The thing is, a lot of people here don't want things to change. Ever. It's not a very progressive approach to life. We're a "have not" province to begin with anyway, in terms of resources and economy. The entire Maritime Region is. We depend on federal assistance more than any other part of the country. We should be the last ones to slap opportunity in the face, but...
We have our quirks out this way, but it's still home. Ya know what I mean? I grew up here and my roots are here. |

Country: | Yeah, I know. And I didn't wanted to piss on Nova-Scotia with my last post. All I said is that it doesn't make a big difference if the stores remain open on Sunday... When your economy isn't based on tourism. All companies from Québec are either moving in Ontario or closing down because of both taxes and Workers Unions that are stronger here than anywhere else in North America. And foreign companies don't want to come here for the same reasons. So, we are losing everything and we must rely on tourism to make money. That is a shame. |
