Country: | I see nothing wrong with any of those articles. I think it is the right of the Japanese to keep themselves Japanese. Especially in the case of the saunas, they are part of Japanese life and should be kept Japanese.
There has to be parts of a countries heritage that belongs to that country, and that is just what Japan is doing. Mixing up those two articles, it shows that it was possible the African-American was turned away due to being foreign, not because he was black.
Japan does have a low crime rate, and it seems to stem from Japan still being Japanese. The events of 60 years ago obviously still run deep - but it's perfectly understandable on both sides.

Country: | I agree to a point - its one thing to preserve your heritage and culture, its another thing when you flat out discriminate - what if we wanted to keep Disneyland "American" and denied admittance to all foreigners?!?
The guy in the article I posted just wanted to buy a pair of eyeglasses. What got me was the double talk from the judge on this matter, a very convenient way of denying the facts....Very typical for the Japanese I've dealt with...
I see hordes of Japanese tourists visit the US all the time, what if they were denied entrance into K Marts or certain businesses?!?!

| Yes, one of the waitresses at a Japanese restaurant asked to put my name on the order ticket and laughed evilly.
Also, one made some weird implicit remarks about my African American friend's skin tone.
Some just seem to harbor some kind of ill will towards foreigners. On the other hand some are extremely nice.
I don't see this kind of behavior with any Chinese people at all. |

Country: | Taxes are a "pointless subject?" You know what warms my heart? When a new member reopens a thread long dead just to bash it. And a thread which I found worthwhile when we were discussing it...quite a while ago.
