Country: | I dont get US politics. But hey, Im british so I dont need to. Mind you, I dont even get British politics...
On the subject of Politics, In the 1970 (i think) election for parliment, the BBC did it's usual storys on the election. There was this big swingy-thibg that mesured the seats in parliment, but the presenter dressed up as tarzan and sung, 'IM THE KING OF THE SWINGERS....' |

That way, useless thugs don't get them | Certain liberal-minded states do require licenses to own firearms. NJ is one of them. Now - check out violent crime in NJ and the numbers of illegal firearms floating around in places like Camden, Newark, East Orange, Trenton, etc.
That policy of obstructing the civilian right to bear arms has led to a culture where the criminals are armed to the damn teeth and law abiding citizens are defenseless against them. A former police officer was prosecuted for owning an M-1 Garand rifle because it was an "assault weapon" when he still possessed it when he retired. It didn't matter that it was a historic rifle because pinheads in NJ that never even touched a firearm before termed it an assault weapon. There's really no such thing as an assault weapon. It's a semi-auto 30-06 internal magazine rifle.
2nd Ammendment grants the right to bear arms. Most Americans do not want to relinquish that right.
My head's going to explode now

| Just curious, How's a license going to stop a low life from getting a gun? Kinda like a Bobby going tweet tweet on his whistle while chasing a bad guy..

However banning guns is not the answer to the problem. They will never get my guns, I can tell you that much!

Country: | I was lead to believe (according to our press) that if the NRA goes against a senator during election time he doesn't get in.
I cant see how you can ban fire arms with so many already in circulation it would be impossible to collect them all in with out leaving thousands still around.
The other thing that I am not sure on is the constitution as I keep hearing different interpretations depending on which camp you follow EG some say the right to bare arms others say it means the right to bare arms as part of a organized militia. how to you guys see it? |

Country: | well it was first to form a militia from the local populace and then the right to bare arms in case of. the handiest way was not have them stored in a so-called safety house but under your own supervision at home. In the states the ever present big thumb is upon us to rid the states owners of all weapons of any sort.
It will be interesting come 2008 and beyond what will happen ......... and revolt from outside Washington D.C. would not be unheard of if the big thumb tries to break down front doors |

That has the advantage of allowing it to be a "living" document and changing through the times while keeping the intent, but also the danger of drawing from it the meaning to support that which you are biased towards. It's nice to be able to follow constructionalist thought, but the problem is that the constitution would seem outdated in many respects. Conversely, there are many lunatics out there whose loose interpretation makes me vomit. I think you'll find there are severe problems with either approach.

Yet for some reason, nobody can explain that simple fact legislators in some of the states with more strict gun control laws.

Country: | Because they sit up in there cushy offices, drinking there scotch and smoking there (illegally bought) Cuban cigars coming up with more great ideas because they are not in touch with reality because they were born into politics.
