well it wasn't until my father's eulogy at his funeral that we as a family discovered he didn't like flying and yet he served as a mid upper gunner on Lancasters during the war. as for drinking he did enjoy a few beers on a hot day regardless of the temperature outside

Ah yes, the universal bond shared between military men the world over, regardless of service or rank.

...Alcoholism.

that is funny Nonskimmer, but dad and his mates did get trapped on the Great Pyramid of Cheops in Eygpt early in WW2 when he was in the Army with 6th Division whilst based in Eygpt. Yes they were drunk and yes they couldn't get down until after climbing the pyramid at night and had to wait until day break to find their way down and sobering up a bit to do so. but so being soldiers on the Great Pyramid of Cheops they left their mark on the stones like any other soldiers had done over many centuries before them. Dad said their were names on the stones from soldiers that had climbed the Pyramid. I said great Dad grafitti one of the wonders of the world hahaha

They have to be good at something, I suppose. Although when you take them on your home ground, they get a bit lost... Ever seem them under the effects of Provence Rosé wine on a hot afternoon in the south of France?
