Country: | That sh*t makes my skin crawl... Greetings ladies and gentlemen.
It's pissing me off how far anti-Americanism can go... I just heard that song on a local radio over here. It was originally written in Québec slang, so forgive any phrase that could sounds weird to your ears... I did my best to translate the lyrics. I write those few words,
That will never be seen,
That will never be read,
That will never be believed,
But it helps killing time,
And to soften hard times,
Even if I no longer have a past,
And even less future.
Everyone is well placed,
A roof, four walls, a bullet-proof door,
We're having everyday,
At least 3 or 4 beatings,
Attached like dogs,
Like if we could go away,
And when love comes,
It comes as a sigh.
I took a forced trip,
All expenditure paid,
Under the sun and the palm trees,
Of Guantanamo Bay,
There where the human rights,
Are reinterpreted,
You have the right to be nobody,
And to be tortured.
Some are here because they can bother,
And other more dangerous,
Are the ones who have ideas,
Some that we brought back to make them speak,
And some other just to prevent them from doing so.
I took a forced trip,
All expenditure paid,
Under the sun and the palm trees,
Of Guantanamo Bay,
There where the human rights,
Are reinterpreted,
You have the right to be nobody,
And to be tortured.
If you become the enemy of a nation with opinions,
If you can hurt with a pencil or a stick,
If you say they are wrong,
They'll hang you for treason,
But soon anyway,
We'll all sing in unison.
I took a forced trip,
All expenditure paid,
Under the sun and the palm trees,
Of Guantanamo Bay,
There where the human rights,
Are reinterpreted,
You have the right to be nobody,
And to be tortured.
The one who put himself over the laws of men and God,
The democracy, I'm pointing it to you with my middlefinger,
The freedom of ones become the prison of others,
F*ck that president, his voters and his apostles.
I took a forced trip,
All expenditure paid,
Under the sun and the palm trees,
Of Guantanamo Bay,
There where the human rights,
Are reinterpreted,
You have the right to be nobody,
And to be tortured.
Geez... That's the best exemple of Québec's Nationalism. "If a country is better than the one you're living in, piss on it."
If you wonder who the signer is, his name is Rudy Caya. Have fun pissing on him.
Oh, and if ever you wanna invade the Province of Québec, I can be a good pathfinder...

Country: | Well, that's one f##ked up song, by the way, I'm going to Quebec towards the end of April for a school trip, any advice you can offer Maestro, that would be great.

Country: | I feel for ya' dude, I honestly do. I had a conversation with someone in their late 70s a few weeks back and they said they didn't believe this generation had ever been tested. Was not particularly impressed with it either. I know that every generation feels that way about the one before it but I agreed with it in terms of my own generation (late baby boomers). This is a very privledged time we live in and I can not believe it will last.
The clown that wrote the song is on the fringes at best. Pretty common with an anti-establishment type for such a song to be written. It really isn't a protest song as much as it is a marketing jibe, written knowing full well his/her/whatevers listeners will groove to it. Less about GWB than about making a buck. |

Country: | Sure is easy to write about how much you hate everything when you have never had to fight for anything a day in your life.

Country: | He should be made to live in Guantanamo with those Criminals for a few months and see if his song remains the same!!! Or live with some of the families who's loved ones were involved in the terrorist attacks and see what he thinks afterwards.
Unfotunately there are too many people that buy into that kind of nonsense.

Country: | It's just typical of all the "bush-bashing" that musicians have been doing for the last 5 years. They know if that act all politically aware and care about issues like war and stuff that people will buy their records. It's all money, I doubt any of these people really give a **** about politics and stuff.
Plus what do you expect from the French. |

I assume that you are referring to Québec City, right ? Well, there is some nice touristic places...
First you've got the Citadelle (a part of it recently caught fire, but the fire fighters managed to save about 90% of the museum's artifacts... I don't know if it will be opened to public when you'll arrive). If I'm not mistaking, that's the oldest fort in North America.
There is also the "Château Frontenac", Québec City's emblem (just like the "Statue of Liberty" is to New-York City). It's a very nice (and expensive) hotel located in the old part of the city.
The "Plaines d'Abraham" is also a a place to visit. That's where the English Army and American Militia kicked the living sh*t out of the French Army.
If you like wintersports, I suggest you a trip to Mont Sainte-Anne. But hurry up because the ski season closes on April 27th.
If you like more "spiritual" things, make sure to visit the "Basilique Sainte-Anne" at Sainte-Anne de Beaupré. That church is a beauty (even if you're not a believer) and it is quite old too.
This year is the 400th anniversary of Québec City, so there will be several special events throughout 2008.
Well, I'm sure there is more, but that's all I can think of right now. |

Thanks for the advice, sorry, I should have been more specific and said Quebec City, my bad.

Country: | I will say it once more. The right to protest is a right paid in blood by some one else . But once again some one like this nitwit songster is only in it for the money. At least the Gitmo POWs have a spiritual reason or reasons of their own perverse as it may well be. But this songster traded his soul for cash when he penned those words. And he may well think he has added his protest but what he has done as seen by others is that he sold himself like a whore to the highest bidder. I wouldn't piss on him if he suddenly burst into flames. I would just sell tickets of his burning and donate the money to War Widows or Injured or Wounded Veterans. And wouldn't even blink an eye in doing so. Remember folks the nitwit songster is just representative of those who sell themselves for cash and are more to be pitied then listened too |
