Anti-Muslim Riot in Nigeria Turns Deadly By DULUE MBACHU, Associated Press Writer

LAGOS, Nigeria - Christian mobs rampaged through a southern Nigerian city Tuesday, burning mosques and killing several people in an outbreak of anti-Muslim violence that followed deadly protests against caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad over the weekend.

Residents and witnesses in the southern, predominantly Christian city of Onitsha said several Muslims with origins in the north were beaten to death by mobs which also burned two mosques there.

"The mosque at the main market has been burnt and I've counted at least six dead bodies on the streets," Izzy Uzor, an Onitsha resident and businessman, told The Associated Press by telephone. "The whole town is in a frenzy and people are running in all directions."

The violence appeared to be in reprisal for anti-Christian violence Saturday in the mostly Muslim northern city of Maiduguri in which thousands of Muslims protesting caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad attacked Christians and burned churches, killing at least 18 people.

Another Onitsha resident, Isotonu Achor, said one badly beaten Muslim man ran into his office from the streets to escape the violence.

"There is blood all over him and I'm scared they'll come for him here. If he doesn't get urgent treatment he will die," Achor said.

Police and government officials were not immediately available for comment.

Nigeria, Africa's most populous country of more than 130 million people, is roughly divided between a predominantly Muslim north and a mainly Christian south. Thousands of people have died in religious violence in Nigeria since 2000.

Saturday's protest over the cartoons of Prophet Muhammad in Maiduguri marked the first violent demonstrations over the issue in Nigeria. Police say at least 18 people, most of them Christians, died, and 30 churches were burned down. The Christian Association of Nigeria said at least 50 people were killed in the violence.

The cartoons, which first appeared in a Danish newspaper in September, have set off sometimes violent protests around the world. One caricature shows Muhammad wearing a bomb-shaped turban with an ignited fuse.

Islam widely holds that representations of Muhammad are banned for fear they could lead to idolatry.

whats crap in this whole reecent affair in Afrika is that no-one will pay attention to the non-muslims that were killed and the 30 churchs burned down but wait till tonights news we will most likely hear of the carnage that some faction has assaulted mosques and killed muslim believers. the whole thing is so warped it will never get untangled until total war is over the whole earth.

Ha ha, tell you a quick one Erich.

Several years ago I played a cool joke on a Muslim from Bangladesh. I was in my house cooking some bacon & eggs fer breakfast. This stupid dude came over to my house and wanted to preach about the Koran or some other book like that. The dude knocked on my side door (which is next to my little kitchen) and I said to come in as I could not leave the stove for fear of burning the eggs.

This thin dude asked what I was cooking and I simply said "A traditional all-American breakfast." The dude asked what was I doing with the eggs and I said that I was cooking them "Eggs Over Easy" so I could make a sandwich using them. I asked if he would like to try some and it would take no time at all cooking two more and he agreed.

Little did he know but, I fried these eggs in BACON grease as well as that the meat product he was enjoying several slices of was American cut--BACON.

This dumb ass did love the bacon not realizing it was pork and that eating pork was strictly Verboten; by his chosen religion. This was probably the best tasting breakfast this dork ever ate not knowing that I fed it to him as a joke.

Also, they are supposedly not allowed to drink "spirits" of any kind but, I also gave him a taste of some "white Lightning" and a bottle of beer. I couldn't believe at how ignorant he was. After eating his meal, he left not ever talking about what he came there to talk about.

I guess since this dude ate food he was not allowed to eat, means that he isn't going to a Muslim after-life in Heaven.

Hi Plan, I had it as an inheritance from one of my uncles who "acquired" a few jugs many years ago when he visited my Mother's side of the family who live in Tennessee. As a matter of fact, that side of the family also owns part of the Lookout Mountain battlefield.
