Country: | I found this interesting article after hearing about it on PBS it pretty much spells out the double standards involved including how Israel is the single largest benrfactor of US foriegn aid $500. for each Israeli citizen minimun accounting of its use and qoutes by such people as Dick Armey stating his 1st priority in foreign policy is Israel I would have thought the US would be his priority and the qoute from Ben Gurion
This was well understood by Israel’s early leaders. David Ben-Gurion told Nahum Goldmann, the president of the World Jewish Congress:
If I were an Arab leader I would never make terms with Israel. That is natural: we have taken their country . . . We come from Israel, but two thousand years ago, and what is that to them? There has been anti-semitism, the Nazis, Hitler, Auschwitz, but was that their fault? They only see one thing: we have come here and stolen their country. Why should they accept that?

Country: | Raghead is a derogatory term to describe any middle-eastern man that happens to aggravate you. If you think Webster's is right, I can assure you that when I was in Iraq just last year, it was derogatory, and thus unacceptable among gentlemen. |

Country: | The western powers prior to WWII started the whole middle east conflict. The Germans may have actually been the worst to the Jews (and Israel as we know it as a historical nation), but Britian and the US have a conspiracy part in it as well. The Americans turned away a ship of Jewish refugees from Europe prior to the US entry into the war. The British were actively trying to establish a New Palestine in what is now Israel before the war kicked off. Only problem was, there were Muslims already living where the British were putting the Jews fleeing the coming storm in Europe. Following pressure from multiple sources, this finally quit happening as the war kicked off. One tragedy associated with this is the sinking of the Struma in the Black Sea by a Russian sub, at a loss of 15,000 lives. At the conclusion of the war, the remaining refugees were given the remaining war material, and given leeway to "take back their homeland". That's a very hamfisted version of how it went down, but you can see the intentions of the existing world powers of the time. |

Country: | Believe it or not, part of the reason the ship was turned away from the US is because back then, we actually (gasp!) enforced our immigration laws!

Country: | True, but given the whole "huddled masses yearning to be free" thing I would say we failed on what should have been a good faith decision, these being political refugees. Not one of the proudest moments in humanitarian efforts... |

Country: | Agreed not a proud moment, but did anyone then realize what was in store for Europe's Jews, in 1939-1940? The size and scope of the holocaust was difficult to grasp from those who saw it first-hand, much less anyone thousands of miles away.

Country: | I agree with you on this even. Besides before someone condemns the US for turning that ship away, think about how many thousands the Vatican turned away aswell.
