Look, Rush has criticized the UN. Rush has advocated that we reduce (remove) funding for certain UN activity scope. But that URL implicated nothing. Nothing.

I'm certainly not knocking the men on the ground that have been put in harm's way by the UN anywhere, and I'm sure Rush did not either. Stay focused, it's the institution that has got to go.

No UN peacekeepers are being criticized in this thread that I can see.

I was once told I would be going to wear a blue helmet in a situation under a foreign commander. I won't go into details as to who or where, but I told my CO that if he's going to put a blue helmet on my head, he better put a bullet through my heart first. He called me insubordinate, I laughed a fired back that him bowing to that would make him a puppet.

I filled a LOT of sandbags for that comment, but you know what, my helmet was never blue.

There are some good commanders in the UN forces, but the one we might have been under would have gotten many of us killed.

But the UN as an organization has become inept and impotent. Genocide is still happening in Africa, human rights are still being violated all over the world and the UN brings "condemnation". How many times can you tell a child "you shouldn't do that" and do nothing when they do that they realize they can get away with it because there are no consequences?

The US would not make good UN troops simply because you are a superpower and a lightning rod ,in other words the locals would always think the US would only be there to benefit the US and not as a fair broker .The extent of military aid the US should provide the UN is solely logistical.
I apologize about the Rush comment as I cannot find a quote ref the UN troops from him

Eric did you hear McCain's comments {musings?} about his idea for the US to get involved with a "league of democracys"? I think he might be on the right track, for the free democratic societys to cooperate more in the world.

It sounds like an admission that the UN {league of tyrants & dictatorships? } in it's present form is unworkable.

regards

Alex {no blue helmet here }

Blame the UN leadership for that....

BTW the Croat General who was responsible was brought to justice.

As Eric said I'd rather put a bullet through my head than put that blue helmet on it, just for the example you showed.

Sorry Pb, did not wish to insult Canadian's who serve. Rather, your story is indication of what is wrong with the UN, not what is wrong with the Canadian military. Blame your politicians. My comment was in poor taste.
