Country: | Venezuela insults United States By Frank Jack Daniel
CARACAS (Reuters) - Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez has thrust the OPEC nation into its worst diplomatic crisis for years by expelling the U.S. ambassador in a growing feud between Washington and Latin America's leftist leaders.
Chavez, who calls ex-Cuban leader Fidel Castro his mentor, also on Thursday repeated a threat he has made often to cut off Venezuela's oil supply to the United States.
"Go to hell, s--- Yankees, we are a dignified people, go to hell a hundred times," Chavez shouted at a political rally to thousands of roaring supporters dressed in red.
Chavez is the most radical of a growing number of leftist governments in Latin America that to a greater or lesser degree oppose Washington's traditional dominance in Latin America.
Venezuela has some of the largest oil reserves outside the Middle East and despite Chavez's clashes with the Bush administration, is a major supplier to the United States, which is its biggest customer.
Chavez said Thursday's move was made in support of his close ally President Evo Morales of Bolivia, where violent anti-government protests have killed eight people.
"The Yankee ambassador in Caracas has got 72 hours to get out of Venezuela, in solidarity with Bolivia," Chavez said.
Morales, a leftist Aymara Indian, this week expelled the U.S. ambassador in the poor Andean nation after accusing him of instigating the protests. Continued... Venezuela insults United States, expels ambassador | U.S. | Reuters

Country: | Better question is "should the US do anything"? My guess would be no. He is a nutbag. He is a minor threat. He is a pain in the ass. But all that is just posturing and there is no international law that says you can't be a nutbag, posturing, pain in the ass. He hasn't crossed a line and attacked any US or other national interest.
While the US may not like him (Mexico, Columbia, Brazil, ect, also probably would rather he was somewhere else), he is not invading his neighbors nor affecting strategic assets (read-he is still selling the US oil).
So, in short, there is nothing we should do. |

Chavez is so theatrical.
When he referred to Pres Bush as the devil at the UN I almost spewed my cereal all over myself - it was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

lolllll maybe !!!
the guy is the king of "factoids", he have a talk show in state channel, manipulates his image, make weird statements, but in the pratice is a clown as you said. we have to laught from his speeches.
last confrontation venezuela had with colombia resulted 4 slashed tires of a venezuelian police car inside colombian side of the border... then chavez asked for armistice ! pfff...
and btw, chavez is not pinochet. who compares chavez with pinochet dont know how violent was the dictatureship of pinochet in chile. chavez is not violent, he is obssessed by control the country, but dont use 1/100000 of vilolence that pinochet used against leftist students and chilean indians.
chavez is a clown, democratically ellected by the poorest venezuelians who see in chaves some kind of robin hood and che guevara. of course, pure marketing of chavez, he is good in that.

amsel, are you from cia ? | LOL of course not. I am definantly an opponant of marxism, communism, and bolshevism though. Fighting the leftists is more of a priority to me then fighting militant muslims. Just a personal opinion.
