Wasnt it only a few years ago that the French wanted to extend an international airport on the ground where a major battle was fought in WW1? This site saw massive fighting between German and Australian troops but it was a victory for the allies.
The project was abandoned because of the world wide uproar.

read an article 2 minutes ago saying that when ngai tahu brought the land 10
years ago that they only had aviation interests in mind for the furure for Wigram. bull F*****g Sh*t
typical
time for some PANTERA! | Perhaps a lawyer could look at the original deal and see if there is any language in the contract that may negate the deal because they lied about the aviation interests.

Dear Simon
Thank you for your message regarding Wigram airbase as an historical site.
Like you I am a firm supporter of retaining as much as possible of our heritage, including our military and aviation heritage and in this particular instance I was one of those who argued - largely successfully at it happens - for the need to ensure that heritage was preserved when it came to Wigram, notwithstanding that it was not a decison which fell within either my portfolios as a Minister as you appear to think. I was acting in doing so in my capacity as a local Member of Parliament. There has been a certain level of misunderstanding regarding this matter which I hope I can clear up for you.
It is important to be aware that historically Wigram comprises two areas.
The first is the original area dedicated by Wigram himself for aviation purposes. This contains a number of historical building and other related sites and I understand these are largely to be retained for heritage reasons. The other (and much larger area) was taken for defence purposes in World War 2 and this is the area which is to be developed for housing because it is no longer required for aviation purposes. As you may be aware it was offered for purchase to Ngai Tahu at current commercial value as part of the settlement of their Waitangi claim and they chose to take up this option. They are developing it for commercial reasons to recoup that investment, but it is my understanding that they also have committed themselves to retaining at least some of the rather smaller numbers of heritage buildings on that portion of the land.
I trust this satisfies your concerns but if not please feel free to write to me again and I will try to respond
With best wishes
Yours sincerely
Jim Anderton
M P for Wigram and Leader of the Progressive Party
What do our political analyists think of this??
Has anyone else got the exact same email?

My thoughts exactly Heinz. Beauracrats who completely disregard national heritage and the views of thousands of people just for the propect of some personal gain.
Interesting that no-one else seems to have got a reply from young Jim.
Must be my Aussie charm (*splutter*cough*)
No I haven't replyed to him yet Daniel, he seems sure that no history is being lost but that, of course, sounds like total lies.
Its hard to write to him without letting your real feelings/emotions come through and making it a very 'colourful' letter!
Keep the pressure on him I reckon!
Hey Daniel, do you know of any other pollies in on this deal?
Give them a bit of an 'email bombardment' as well!
Cheers
Simon

| Man what would happen if I had it my way
all the possibilities
Think this is just God trying to wind me up because really is this happening?
Reckon when I die he'll say something like yeah you did something bad in the life before so I had to punish you by annoying you so much
well I've passed the point of being ropable and to the point of getting me self a gun decided its now all fake and someone above just trying to annoy me(That's my only explanation anyway)
must be Karma or something when My life ends it be oh yeah you were just trying to annoy me
I swear this really is just aload of crap
Couple of 109's tearing up Wigram would be sweet right about now
I know you guys won't really know/care about what I've just said .Its ok I understand. I'm in a world of my own
