Soundbreaker!!!

Throwin my 2 cents:

I like the idea of a contract between citizens and government (where have I heard that before) but there is a problem when the 'rogue' ones are too many and setting policy for the status quo. I agree that politicians should have things more in line with the general public. As it is, all the percs and bennies have created an elite class that perpetuates itself to the point of dulling our senses.

Case in point is the court ruling the past year or so regarding emminent domain. The government has the authority to take property it deems it needs for any kind of project they dream up. I don't know where the court's heads were but to me, this goes against every thing the constitution guaranteed. Now in my backyard, a town is trying to take out a whole neiborhood so they can build an exclusive, new marina.

We can debate the main civil liberties all we want (like gun ownership and free speech) but its these little ones that are being abused until we won't recognize that the serious ones are being attacked.

As far as what single civil liberty would I fight for? The right to vote. Without it I would not have a say in the who supposedly represents me in government.

Why?

What is real and what isn't?

However I think Grameme was using a good dose of sarcasm.

Njaco, I also thought it pretty strange that the Gubament could bulldoze your home down, even if you don't owe money on it, for building what they want!

It sure doesn't sound very much like a people goverment.

Yes but think of this way, politicians and council's put so much spin on things that could be justified.

I did - but in the context of the firearms debate and the dread the monarchy (of ANY country) had for peasants armed with long range weapons... in the 16 thru 19th centuries - which is the huge contrast between us.

I do not back down from the comment that Royalty was not thrilled with the notion of a peasant that could drill one's royal family members (or private parts) from afar for grievances, real or imagined (mostly real)... Ditto Japanese.
