There is one particularly good discussion on Iraq in this thread:

There are quite a few people in the US that don't know that there are even Canadians IN Afganistan, I've heard people ask why only the US & UK are fighting. The Canadian army is deployed in the south where the heaviest fighting is, thats why there are so many casualties.

Rightly or wrongly, if Bush didn't react (Iraq), he would be part of that 5% unemployment, which FLYBOY mentioned above, by now.

I totally agree with this statement of yours from way back. Can you imagine how much fodder it would have provided to the Democrats if Bush had done nothing? Even worse, can you imagine if he had done nothing, only this time another terrorist attack came on US soil? Same end results! The same Democrats that now bash him for going into the middle east, would now be able to bash him for not doing anything! Maybe this is more of a commetary on the problems or breakdown of the two parties, rather than just a comment on weather or not I like Bush! It is all about making the other party look bad in an effort to collect more power for yourself, or put your party in a position to win elections!

Lukewarm

But I LOVE how he pisses off the idiots by his mere existance. Like Cheney in that regard even more, and I'm tempted to buy stock in Haliburton.....

I've been drifting away from being Republican for about a decade now, but sort of stuck with them, as I've NOT been drifting towards the Dems.

My issues are:
-Work towards defeating radical Islam, even if it takes 50+ years and as much sacrifice as WWII.
-Stop harrassing the Christians (I'm hardcore agnostic, but I get a nice wholesome feeling when I see a nativity scene, even at a City Hall.... Its the Christian bashers that seem to be close minded bigots)
-Cut the Legal fee/malpractice insurance leech from medical costs, THEN worry about other ways to make it cheaper and more available.
-Do whatever it takes to reduce lawyer leeching elsewhere
(basicly, cut the money going through law firms to about 1/3 of what it is now, by whatever means is needed....)
-Build LOTS of nuke power as fast as possible
-Secure the borders, but DONT close them.
-KILL gangs, by whatever means works. I'd even accept some limited pot legalization for this, or use bullets, or both and other stuff.
-Add shame to the PARENTS in broken homes, by whatever means needed. Fairness be damned.
(these last two are focused on getting more parents INVOLVED in coming down on poorly behaved kids like a ton of angry bricks. Would solve a lot of problems....)

Edit: Strange it may sound, I actually like the Clintons (Bill more than Hill), and have no dislike for "many" dems (Kerry being the biggest exception). I just think their policies are worse than the Republicans.

Thing to remember, in grand perspective, even most "bad" U.S. presidents have been "good".

Lot of good points Derf, but....

Woudn't point #8 wipe out point #7? If parents were more responsible who would be in the gangs?
