Njaco, can anyone explain to me why Bush supported the (now dead) immigration bill? If the new immigrants are much more likely to vote with the Dems, why is he in favour of giving amnesty?

Now he's No Good! He claims to be a conservative, but he supports illegal immigration, he just caved on the liberal energy bill, he's starting to give in to other socialist countries on Global Warming. he's also a globalist, and supports his dad's "New World Order" In short he's weak, and needs to be replaced by a real conservative.

In the past he cut taxes, and was strong in the war against terrorism. I guess that was just a temporary gimmick.

Freebird, I agree and I don't have an answer for the immigration bill, Dubai ports, etc. As I posted earlier, some of his stuff makes me cringe and I don't have an answer.

But....

(and this may be thin) The liberals need votes to make sure they win in 2008. Where do you increase the voteing public? You've done registation drives, you fought for the absentee ballot expansion, etc. Well, to get more votes, you increase the voter rolls. I can only imagine that this wasn't an issue with Bush as he quietly kept with the Immigration law as passed in the 90s and tried to increase border protection. But the Dems brought it up and made it an issue. He had to respond. Only poorly IMHO.

Suppose we took a spin in my time machine back to 1996. Clinton is in office, with Hillary (& Monica! ) He is trying to push the Republican congress to intervene in Bosnia but they are resisting.

If you were told back in 1996 that in the future year 2000 a new President would be elected, and his party would control both houses of congress.

He would push an amnesty bill to legalize 20+ million illegals {future democratic voters} and reward them for breaking the law.

His party's congress would spend money like drunken sailors, {oops I hope I'm not offending any sailors here! } while the budjet hemorrhages money, and the debt spirals out of control

He would try a "nation building" project in some third world tribal country, where the people have almost zero interest in justice, democracy or a normal civil society, but instead they prefer to kidnap & behead aid workers, or kill US soldiers who are there to do so-called evil deeds {like building hospitals & schools!!}

He would continue Clinton's policy of China as "most-favoured-nation" even as they rip us off will currncy devaluation, copyright piracy, etc. while at the same time running one of the most brutal anti-democratic cilil rights abusing regimes.

In his last year in office, during a time of huge bugjet deficits his economic policy would consist giving money away as a form of "wealth re-distributiion"

If I asked you back in 1996 who this President could be, what would your answer have been?

Of course - it must be Ted Kennedy!

Well.....as I said, it was only an opinion but....

Quote:

Well, he may have tried that with NAFTA and others - opening up business with Mexico and what all that came with. Also the Federal outlays for Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid rose to its highest levels during his terms. Lots of potential voters in that area. And I do seem to remember the Get Out and Vote campaign that was on MTV and everywhere else targeting those new and unregistered voters (most likely Dems in training).

And since we can talk about Mexico, anyone remember the $20 billion loan package for Mexico to restore international confidence in the Mexican economy? Naw, that wouldn't get him the Latino vote. And what about his Cuban policy toward refugees?

Quote:

I don't think they were exactly thrifty at that time. He had a budget deficit in 1995 of -3.9 . . . the most since 1950. Source: Congressional Budget Office.

Quote:

About that time is when I first heard of a Global Economy and one reason why NAFTA was pushed - to all in the world to join hands and better mankind. Of course they was Bosnia, Mog, in fact I remember at that time that they were saying his presidency had deployed more American soldier soverseas than any other president since WWII. Among others there was Somalia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, and Haiti.

Quote:
He would push to remove a dictator from office who was a former ally of Bush & Reagan against radical anti-American regimes, while ignoring or giving a slap on the wrist to {radical anti-American} Iran & {communist} Korea while they developed their A bomb programs
Well maybe not those countries but I do remember warm, fireside get togethers with reps from China - you know the country that recently tried to kill Americans with poisoned food and toys and consistantly gets into the Top 10 of Amnesty International's list of worst governments in the world? Shall we say COSCO?

And from Wiki (for what its worth):
1)On June 26, 1993, Clinton ordered an attack on the Iraqi Intelligence Service's (IIS) principal command and control complex in Baghdad, publicly announced as retaliation for the alleged assassination attempt by the IIS on ex-president George Bush while he was visiting Kuwait in April of that year. Sanctions on Iraq that were imposed after the Gulf War remained in place under Clinton. UNICEF estimated that 500,000 children had died as a result by 1999.

2)Clinton signed Executive Order 12957 which implemented tight oil and trade sanctions on Iran and made it illegal for American corporations or their foreign subsidiaries to participate in any contract "for the financing of the development of petroleum resources located in Iran." President Clinton issued Executive Order 12959 which banned almost all trade between U.S. businesses and the Iranian government with the exception of informational materials.

Freebird, nobody is perfect. Not even Bush. But he is my president. What I don't get is the venom, the backstabbing, the murderous look in the eyes of liberals when you mention Bush. But nothing but praise for Clinton? Its ok for Sandy the Burglar to steal, Whitewater was a whitewash, the Fosters should get over it but Bush? "My God, he never served!!! Off with his head!!" Its stupid.
