and that point really chaps my *ss. But it may be true. I think too many voters choose who they like or dislike with opinions not based on someones character or strengths but on hair color, skin color and how white their teeth are.

I agree with Ren though that those that have a brain will vote on issues - but what exact hot-point issue will there be come Nov? gas, economy, immigration, Iraq?

Actually I agree with starling, like probably the majority outside the USA. I think it is very similar to JFK who was loved and respected more outside the US then by his own countrymen, same goes for Carter. I think it just shows the different attitude/expectations towards political, economic viewpoints of Americans contra Europeans and the rest of the world.

But no joke, how about USS Milhouse (Simpsons)

No off course USS R."M". Nixon, I mean that guy was a real American.

On freebirds comment I would fully agree. The Democrates brought themselfs and the US about the chance to change things towards the Republicans. Because I find it very hard to believe that the Americans will ever vote a coloured as their President.

It is a bit of a paradox to me that so many non US citizens hold so many strong opinions about our political situation here when it is obvious that their knowledge of the US is limited, just as my knowledge of their countries is limited.

Even if one’s knowledge should be limited, it is still very okay to mention one’s opinion. Others who might know more are then free to forward corrections or whatever. That would be the reason for this kind of forum right?

I was stationed in the US for several years as a member of the German Bundeswehr, and I got a lot to hear and see in and about the US, not to mention about my parents who lived for more then 30 years in the US.

And if I listen to US citizens who talk about Germany......oh boy.

Regards

It is true that anyone can have opinions and express them. It is just surprising to me that so many from other countries have such strong opinions that mostly seem to reflect the point of view that want the US to be more like countries in Europe. Our history, our demographics, our society and our politics are nothing like Europe's. The characteristics that have made this country great are, I believe, foreign to Europeans.

Absolutely true. The USA is the only country in history to have defined itself as Judeo-Christian. America is also unique in that it has always combined secular government with a society based on religious values.

And my greatest fear is that the liberal, far-left is out to change this basic American ideal.

The ACLU, George Soros etc are enemies of this country. Electing a far left president like Obama will be a disaster for the United States.

One man's opinion.

And I agree. I just don't understand all this Clinton Love-fest that raises its head. I have not seen one thing that he has done except make funerals alittle light hearted.

The big difference Ren is that the policies of the US President will have a major impact on other countries of the world, while the leader of almost every other country has very little impact on the USA. That's why Europeans have opinions of the leader of the US, not opinions on who should be the President of Estonia or Slovenia or Portugal or Luxembourg.

Yep, you are right about that TO.

Seems like Bush is the closer that has come in and "blown the save" so to speak. There is no reason why the Republicans should be running behind, especially during a war, other than the fact that Bush's advisors have been doing a cr@ppy job of giving good advice. Just IMO
