Country: | Saw a video online yesterday of Newt Gingrich making a speech and advocating releasing up to one third of the Petroleum Reserve to help lower oil prices. Apart from the fact that any effect on the oil price structure would be temporary and perhaps not desirable, there may be another reason that the Petroleum Reserve filled to capacity could be necessary. A few weeks back the administration was buying oil to fill the Pet Res to capacity and was heavily criticised because of the high oil prices and was stopped from further buying by congress. Aside from the fact that today oil is higher than it was when the US government was buying it, the odds of an attack on Iran by Israel appear to be going up. Iran does have the ability to impede passage or even temporarily close down the Straits of Hormuz which would disrupt the world oil markets to say the least. I have been reading intelligence reports regarding that possibility for several months on Stratfor. If I was Israel, I believe, if I intended to attack Iran, I would do so before our election to insure cooperation by the US(munitions, refueling, permission to overfly Iraq, etc) Hopefully if the worst happens the Pet Res will be full and perhaps the Bush administration is aware of the possibilities and is making plans to deal with eventualities. Gas rationing anyone? |

And we need to rid this country of the "tree hugger" mentality. Gonna be tough this election year. I keep hearing people are gonna vote for "change". Could very well be a change for the worse.

Country: | Bush will go down as the worst president that the United States has ever had. He chose a time when America was reeling in anger over the attack of 9/11 to push through an unjustified war. The terrorists on those planes were Saudis and Egyptians. The person that took full responsibility for those attacks was Osama Bin Laden, trained by the U.S. C.I.A. during the Soviet/Afghani war of the 80s. We went in under the sole justification of an ominous threat of WMDs that have yet to be found. The U.S. has the best satellites in the world, not to mention other devices to monitor the movement of vehicles, warheads, etc. Rumsfeld made claim that he knew exactly where and how many WMDs there were. Not to mention his downplay of the Geneva Convention that will go on to haunt the U.S. military for years to come. Lies followed lies, the sheep ate the lies, and now, even the sheep are starting to question the motives of this war. There will never be a dreamy westernized democracy in Iraq. We started this without any clear cut objectives and made up the rules as we went along like a jail-house poker game. I am a veteran of the U.S. military. It pains me to see our soldiers used in such a way. Now, we have a legitimate threat from Iran, but unfortunately our forces are spread too thin elsewhere at the time. What are we to do now? Also, I lived in Gulfport Mississippi during the worst natural disaster to ever strike the United States (Hurricane Katrina). I watched this excuse for a presidents slow reaction to the same. Inexcusable reaction. Period. People died needlessly. There was no leadership or use made of available resources. Thanks to the Patriot Act, everything I'm writing is open to the powers that be, guess what, I don't give a rats @$$ |

Country: | I'm not calling any soldier/airman/sailor a sheep, I'm talking about the general populace. A soldier doesn't have a choice, he follows orders. |

I blame the war being botched on terrible managment by Rumsfeld, but I still believe there WMD's, atleast up until the invasion.

No one could of predicted the way Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein would turn in 1983....

Country: | Agree Chris - I'm not a Bush fan as well but put things into perspective, If some one would of told you in 1980 that the Soviet Union would no longer be around by 1995, you would of thought they were nuts.

Country: | The Soviet/Afghani war was a great way for the U.S. to try out their latest weapons against Russia. We figured out real quick that a Redeye (later Stinger) could knock a Hind out of the sky in a heartbeat. We also witnessed first hand the Soviets use of their latest Chem/bio weapons. Live and learn I guess. I was in southern Germany during most of the 80s (active duty) |
