Country: | After the First World War, the vast majority of British soldiers swore that we'd fought the wrong enemy, and that the only war they'd ever volunteer for in the future would be one against the French.

Country: | Before the First World War, Britain were laying plans for a war with France as Germany our ally. A lot of the airfields in southern Britain were actually built for a defence against a French foe, rather than a German one.

Country: | Seems reasonable, though. Pity none of them exist any more, we might need them one day when we finally have the guts to secede from the Union!

I take it that the EU has not provided any economic growth, or increased British exports, which was supposed to have been one of the main advantages of the British joining the union in theory, am I right?

Country: | Ha bl++dy ha, mate! All it's done is make it easier for the French - whose protectionist attitude is well known when it comes to non-French companies making bids for French ones - to take over our economy. Look at Suez/GDF, where the French fused a state company with a private one to defeat an Italian takeover bid, or the way France has kept EDF, the state electricity monopoly, intact while it buys into the privatized (by order of the EU) markets in the other EU countries!
The US still remains Britain's major trading partner.

Country: | The only thing Britain receives from the EU is payments; which apparently are to make up for the trade incentives the rest of the EU gets. More than one time have the EU tried to stop that.

Country: | The thing that I hate the most about the EU is that citizens of EU nations can travel freely throughout the EU and work there. All the damn Easterners are now coming across and free loading and ruining this place.

Country: | Fighting the wrong enemy oh bugger. you mean to say it should have been the French we should have kicked in 2 world wars oh bugger. You do know of course when in 1788 when the First Fleet arrived in Botany Bay in what is now called Sydney there was a French Frigate at anchor. On sighting the First Fleet the Froggies buggered off instantly pulled up anchor and sailed away never to be seen again. As the old joke says course there is no World war 3 France hasn't surrendered yet |

Country: | France being our natural enemy, a lot of British soldiers wanted to fight the French. The British didn't even need to though - the Germans would have won without us.

Country: | well plan as an old Scottish Uncle of mine use to say never trust the French and if you know Scottish History at all and the Grand Alliance Treaty Scotland had with France. you would know why the Scots never trusted the French after the Jacobite Rebellions and how the French let the Scots down bloody twice. Yes you maybe thinking is Emac a decendant of a Jacobite Clan you would be spot on mate. I am a decendant of a Jacobite family from Skye in Scotland. AN AUSSIE JACOBITE AND PROUD OF IT MATE

Country: | I do know about the French/Scottish distrust. I also know about Culloden and... I'm only kidding. I'm sure you'll mention Bannockburn now. I was actually born in Scotland - and there used to be great respect for them, being the only country in the Union that put up such a great fight.
Plus, the Romans didn't conquer 'em!
