Is this true or an act? Not going judgemental, but is this actually happening. Has it happened to anyone you know?

I’m not sure, as I'm not staying in that province, but this rumor started flying about two years ago that this is going to happen. Maybe North West Province is the first to actually do it. I'll keep my ears open and post more when i hear any news. If this really happen it would be very bad

Is this for real (by the scan it looks like it)? Have they not seen the situation in Zimbabwe. What was the plan for the white home owners after they loose their homes and only get 30% compensation. Could seem some revolts happening and some point if this continues (or a mass exodus).

Agreed Gnomey. If the mass exodus happens, then you will have the poor living in nice houses, but the community looses it's entire influx of wealth throught the purchasing of higher end goods, new homes (gotta pay the builders), business, etc., into the system.

If it is true, it sounds to me that your going to have politicians giving good houses to those to pay them the most. The political corruption must be just aweful there.

On the short run, you've nailed it Thor. This is very bad for anybody white in SA. Be interesting to see if this goes through.

Further, it is just going to increase the exudus of talent (both black and white) from Africa and make more people leery of doing anything there. Property rights are one of the basic requirements to a free society. If that fails, mob rule follows. Talent leaves for better climates and the society degenerates into a quasi socialist kleptocracy.

In short, it would be the beggining of the end for SA.

Eddie, I am definitely interested in finding out if this is accurate as I would want to send it to several ex-africa types over here. They also watch what is going on in Africa.

a divided country is a weak country. but s.a. is a rich and powerfull country, if people could overpass all the recent history, im sure s.a. would be a greater and stronger nation.

sounds like "clichet" isnt ?

i hope you s.a. blacks, whites indians, whatever... find a way to live togueter without revenges, hates, unconfidences... etc. would be good for you, also good for africa.

That would be a nice perfect world Jug, but it ain't going to happen.

Blacks.....oops, African American's (even though 99% of them were born here and never been to Africa and wouldn't go if you paid their way) here in America still hold whites responsible for slavery and that ended 140 years ago. Sorry, I don't own slaves of any color, neither did my parents, or their parents, or theirs. After that, my family from both sides weren't even in this country.

Point is, it's way too soon to just forgive and forget, especially when you have those that feed on hate and anger to keep it going.

Yeah I was in Pretoria for 6 months. I do have people who are still there but I do not know anyone from North-west Province (plus the guys I know there are students who don't really give a damn about the politics to an extent - most were planning on leaving at some point already). So I doubt they would of heard about this.

Confiscation of NW houses a hoax
2008/08/13

The North West Housing Department has confirmed that a letter, alleging that about 5000 houses are to be seized from "white house owners", is a hoax.

According to the department, the fraudulent declaration was signed by a fictitious "Richard Molefe," who allegedly works at the department, saying the houses would be seized and handed over to the formerly disadvantaged.

The declaration on 31 July was fraudulently written on the letterhead of the North West provincial legislature and circulated in Klerksdorp.

It alleges that according to New Statue Law 34/217 of 2008, 5000 houses and or townhouses in Tlokwe, Matlosana and Rustenburg local municipalities are to be confiscated from white house owners and transferred to previously disadvantaged groups.

There was no person by the name of Richard Molefe, says the department adding that the quoted Statue Law does not exist and the "declaration" is not even in the prescribed format or gazetted as required by law.

"The hoax is a dishonourable, mischievous product of desperate elements wishing to stir unnecessary anxiety, discontent and tension within the targeted communities."

Commenting on the letter, MEC for Developmental Local Government and Housing, Howard Yawa reiterated the department has no intention to confiscate any houses or townhouses or infringe on the rights of citizens to property.

"The hoax is a disingenuous farce that undermines our constitutional democracy," he said.

The department urges any person with information as to the origin of the document or its distributors to report the matter to the police.

Residents are also urged to be vigilant and demand identification from any person claiming to be an official executing the declaration and report the person to the police. – BuaNews

Sounded like BS. Shows there is a fear that what happened up in the DRC is on the minds of people in SA. Understandable.

Glad it's a hoax but wonder if isn't a precursor. Doubtless, others do as well.
