Country: | I don't know about California, but Texas could certainly survive on it's own if it did seperate. The U.S wouldn't be too happy about losing the vast majority of it's oil production though.

Country: | I heard that if California seceded from the rest of the US, it would be the 6th most wealthy country in the world!

Country: | I'm not going to pretend I know how. I know it was the richest state in the U.S - but how? What exactly does California have that makes it so rich? It can't be just the tourism.

Country: | The would just tap into Alaska. Its oil fields are larger than those of Texas. I can only hope they dont tap into Alaska. I want to live there before it goes all ugly.

Country: | Well, d, you have a ton of high tech companies like Cisco, Sun, Intel, etc. Plus you have the entertainment industry and aircraft companies like Lockheed Martin and Boeing. The Central part of the state is mostly agriculture, so we can grow our own food. There are oil wells spread out around the state and refineries also. The size of California is 163,707 square miles. There is a lot packed into it.

| I dont think so. | Well let's take a look at some facts here: Quote:
One out of every eight United States residents lives in California.
California is the first state to ever reach a trillion dollar economy in gross state product.
California has the largest economy in the states of the union.
If California's economic size were measured by itself to other countries, it would rank the 7th largest economy in the world.
Los Angeles is ranked the fourth largest economy in the United States compared to other states

Okay I was off by one according to this, the 7th largest economy in the world. But other sources will place it between 4 and 10. More info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_California

Country: | I forgot all about the high tech industry. I suppose it's because when I think California I picture the beaches and to some extent San Fransico. I always forget about further inland despite the fact I know there's all that stuff there, I just never associate it with Cali.
Texas has it's massive oil reserves to fall back on if it seperated. So, both California and Texas are vital for the massive U.S economy. Good thing the U.S got 'em in the 19th Century, eh!? Think of the world if Mexico had 'em!
