EXACTLY!!!
Communism is the norm here, the world is just to blind to realize it, yet.

The South African Communist Party(SACP) goes hand-in-hand with ANC.
On May 8, the House of Representatives passed by voice vote H.R. 5690, a bill to remove the African National Congress (ANC) from treatment as a terrorist organization and to provide relief for some members of the ANC regarding admissibility into the United State

Too bad everyone is so gun-shy after Iraq, it would probably take 2 Brigades + air support. Drop in, grab Mugabe, arrest his cronies, and then arrange for the African Union to supervise a new election.

Of course many countries would be shocked and horrified that the West would actually do something instead of voicing "regrets" as the dictator drags his country into violence, murder, mayhem, and ruin.

Eddie and all,

OK I must say I haven't really been keeping up with the news lately but I was just in Zimbabwe and have been with Zimbabweans for the last 3 weeks (the guides on the trip). Whilst I was there there was absolutely nothing happening whatsoever (grated that is Vic Falls town and not Harare but the fact there was no violence still stands).

As for the Dollar rate I have a $50 Billion note (among about another $5 Billion). I can buy 2 beers with it. The money is completely worthless - me and a friend were making jokes in the craft market (jokingly saying they had to pay us if we made them laugh) and suddenly we both had huge wads of Zim dollars thrust into are hands (about $6-10 Billion worth - we didn't really expect it)...

Gnomey, what is your take on this? Is Mugabe stealing the election? Were the opposition the real winners in the election or is this just "spin"?

Thing is, it's hard to listen to our government's condemnation of Mugabe without remembering that our current PM was unelected and came top in a leadership contest of one. Of course the situation in Zimbabwe is a thousand times worse, but the point still stands

Most of them don't believe that Mugabe won (the 2 Guides voted for the oppostition) but then they also know there is not real way to forceable remove him from power. I heard reports that only 500 people or so voted in his "victory" and that soldiers were forced at gun point to vote. Of course I didn't see any of this and it could just be rumours that were circulating around Zim but they way he has been operating it wouldn't surprise me if it were true. He did say a couple of weeks back that only "God can remove me from Power" so I guess they are going to have to slog it out for a couple more years. Although it is interesting that the AU countries are beginning to take a harsher line towards him (Botswana has actively said it doesn't recognise him as the rightful leader - although I don't see South Africa doing the same). Guess it is just time until the country implodes and the somehow manages to sort itself out. There is certainly no quick fix though.

One really has to feel for not only the Zimbabwe people, but the thousands of other Africans in the same situation.

Their country is getting plundered for diamonds, oil and many other precious resources, and the African people are getting nothing in return.

Truly tragic

Send in a regiment of paratroops and grab the jackass? I'd be seriously tempted...

The latest is the Chinese & Russians vetoed the UN motion for sanctions. The usual B.S. about an "internal matter"

Can anyone imagine what would have happened if we had this kind of wimpy leaders in WWII? The Allies could express their "regrets" as millions of Jews, Slavs & whoever else was gassed. We could condemn Hitler with the strongest possible language, and threaten to cut off his supply of US bubblegum & marlboros. Everything would be done to aid the oppressed short of any actual real help...

Well I would get a mad guy to kill him. Hypnotize the guy in thinking Mugabe is out to kill him and tell him to take Mugabe out.

The UN is a joke, all they do is talk and talk, but do nothing constructive.

If any western nation took militarily action against Mugarbe the African nations would be screaming foul. They should get him out not leave it up the rest of the world. The AU are totally uncordinated in anything they have attempted they even let Mugarbee attend Sharm el Sheik when he should have at least been given the cold shoulder and told to sod off.
Zimbabwe is land locked so applying sanctions is easy but the boardering nations of Zambia, Mozambique,Botswana and SA cant even agree on a united strategy to oust this vile despot. Why should the west have to send their troops to get rid of this idiot when thoes next door are so ineffectual.

Agreed 100% I personally feel nothing for Africa and its people. They brought it all over themselves. Today there is a massive strike action all over ZA because of high living costs, meanwhile the top brass getting salaries beyond your wildest imagination.

About the sanctions: The world was very quickly to sanction ZA during the Apartheid era. Now they wonder if they must put sanctions against Zim? Like Jeff Boycott said(was listening to 1st test on BBC)"where is the $7m dollar that was given to Zimbabwe cricket for development?" I tell you. Zimbabwe cricket paid for the weapons from China

I love SA and Botswana, but the rest and got and do very rude stuff to them selfs. I love my country due to the things that my family did way back when.

Botswana saw what was going on around them and did not want to follow their example and rather make a success of the country after their independence.
