Spitfire and...?

I've decided to specialise in the Spitfire and its many marques and variants in 1/72 scale and certainly don't have any shortage of options to go at, however along the way to add some variety to the massed ranks of similarly-proportioned fighters I want to do some pairings with other planes, probably wheels-up on stands.

Doesn't necessarily have to be a combat/dogfight situation, could be escorting another allied plane for example, however I would like to make them authentic representations of actual episodes in the Spit's history, e.g. rather than pair a random Spit with a random Bf-109 to represent the Battle of Britain, it should be a specific pair of planes that are known actually to have been engaged in combat at some point. Does anyone have any suggestions on pairings I could do? I guess this might be less about kit options, more about availablity of decals?

I'd love to be able to do pairings for e.g. Battle of Britain, Malta, North Africa, D-Day, Burma...

Thanks!

You might try this site for some ideas:

Aviation Art by Geoff Nutkins - Aviation art prints, rare pilot signatures

Here are some samples:

Lots of details on all of the planes, pilots and units involved. I'm sure there are other sites like this one. I found this by googling imges of "Spitfire in combat with Me 109".

Got one! Not quite the route I expected but... I have decals to do a Mk V and a Mk IX in Battle of Britain Memorial Flight livery/markings - why not pair 'em up with a Eurofighter Typhoon, there's a couple of squadrons' worth right next door at RAF Coningsby?

"Coningsby Cousins"...
