Country: | Too bad Germany and the Netherlands will probably not meet (would be great to have a Netherlands and Germany final again!) as they have a great rivalry.
The record so far:
Germany: 2
Netherlands: 3
Draw: 2

Country: | Didn't know the dutch won more often than the germans. Two historical games comes to my mind, The final in 1974 2:1 loss to the gemans (connaisseurs here are still mad about that one ) and the semi final in 1988 2:1 for us.

Ah I love the **** talking that we can all make in favor of our teams! | Great, I want more anti-Italian team people like you...
Historically, the more supporters against us the better we performed.
Besides, I can understand why you don't want a direct Germany-Italy match: you never had too much luck with us...

Country: | Not wise to be anti-Italian regarding anything in my home = wife's maiden name is Massei and her mother's maiden name is Valdrighi. My son (age 9) who is eligible for dual citizenship and has already informed me that he will someday be playing for Italian national team and not the US squad (sigh).
I will outwardly be pulling for Italy - but actually any time I get the privilege of watching France, Germany, Spain, Italy, or even the good ole' Brits play the game I am a happy guy. The South Americans ain't too bad either - but that's a whole 'nuther thread. Thanks again for keeping me up-to-speed. |

Country: | Italian football is not very popular here in Holland as they play what we call "demolishing football", which means they'll try to bore their opponent to death by only defending and couter from time to time. The dutch IMO always play attractive, offensive football, but then again, the Italians win more often then the Dutch Well, at least we'll rather die fighting instead of win with boring play.

| Oh come on Marcel, this is old crap like 'spaghetti and mandolin', 'Germans are square-headed', 'British have bad teeth', 'French eat frogs', 'Americans are ingnorant' and so on...
The so called 'double lock' was the tactic of the 1960's, nowaday speed and tactics are so changed that nobody can play that way anymore.
The worldwide recognized 'best match of the century' was Germany-Italy of 1970, already in 1978 Italy played the most beautiful soccer of the tournement (finishing 4th), in 1982 Italy won the championship AND the top scorer with Rossi (only Brazil was playing better, but we have been lucky to have hit our best match facing them)
I am an admirer of the Holland soccer, the best team I remember to have seen is the 1970's Ajax (Stuy, Surbieer, Krol; Haan, Hulshoff, Blankenburg; Rep, Neeskens, Cruijff, van de Kerkove, Keizer: see? i remember it without checking Google, except probably some spelling mistake...) but please don't tell me that Inter, Milan and Juventus in their top years were 'demolishing football'.....
[edit ...oops maybe was Muerhen instead of Van de Kerkhove??? I don't remember...]

Country: | You're right, Parmiago, I was exaggerating. I'm really looking forward to the match between our countries, it'll be something to watch, I hope.

... I am not! I am afraid to believe that right now both France and Holland are a bit better than Italy and if we don't find 2-3 good new players by next year it will be hard for Italy to qualify
