Terry MPC use to have a Merkur XR4TI if I have the name correct, which was Mercury's version of the same car.

Is that the 1967 to 1973 (ish) rounded shape MkI Ford Escort? It was the car which dominated the world Rally Championships at the time, with Roger Clark doing a lot of the winning. Also raced in a beautiful red and gold scheme with Alan Mann Racing.
There was a Tamiya or Hasegawa kit of the MkII I had a few years back, but haven't seen a MkI.

Quite alright old chap! One would probably find it easier to find 1/1 Mk.1 and rebuild it as the old girl don't you know....

    Good description Aaron!
Jan old boy, have you any idea how much an even half-reasonable MkI Ford Escort RS1600 is worth these days ?!!!!
There's a guy not far from me who still has one, kept in a locked garage, guarded by a pair of the meanest Hippocroccofrogs in town !
