My Uncle's A-36 "SNAFU", side #42-84066. Flight of 3 straffing a train at Attgliano, Italy, turned out to be explosives (600tons),
the burst took out Uncles a/c very near the RR. He is interred in the American Cemetery near Florence, Italy.
Our family was born and raised in Amelia, Texas (west of Beaumont). The crash site was only about 6 miles from Amelia, Italy,
we didn't find this out until fall of 2021.
A lot of research to get to this point.
The photos of the model are accurate for "SNAFU" and the markings. The first Photo is model, 527th patch on pedestal along with a watch he had that day, and yes it runs. Second is the kit for the model, #41-84067, one # more on this side. Third is my brother/wife at the Florence Cemetery. Forth is a photo (pg. 23) from the book titled "The 86th Fighter Group in WW ll", by Steve W. Luce who's Dad was a pilot in the same unit, my uncle is #2 in photo. Five is unit patch.
His decorations are; Silver Star, Air Medal w/4 Oak Leaf Clusters, Purple Heart
I know this group will appreciate what is represented here. Along time ago. The crash was October 25, 1943, I was 2 y/o.
