| Cockpitfest 2009, Newark Wow... what a weekend...sun... 'pits... great company....could only be the annual (this is the tenth year its run !...Cockpitfest event held at Newark. Thsi is my 5th year at this event and it gets better each year. Tony (Rocketeer) and I packed early and left on the friday for the event. Following a five hour drive we got to Newark and set up camp and started to catch up with old friends. Much later that night we turned in...and I found out very, very early in the morning that my airbed had a puncture !. Up at stupid o'clock and over into the next field for the aerojumble to start getting going. This year, the field was packed with all sorts of lovely stuff to choose from....B17 main wheel ?...Invader canopy ?...WW1 control columns ?...books ?...stuff !...Lincoln main instrument panel ?....Shakelton main instrument panel ?...WW2 blind flying panels...most excellent. We had 21 visiting cockpits from all over the country and almost half of these where new to the event with a high number of 'first timers' coming along and joining in on the fun. We had everything from a Hornet...not the noisy jet one !, through Chipmunks, Canberra's, Bucaneer, Spitfire, Jaguars, Meteors...I tell ya, you really had to be there ! The gates opened nice and early on the sauturday morning and the crowds flooded in. I have never seen it so busy !. so busy in fact that I barely had around ten minutes to get around and get some shots on that first day as I had...like all the other 'cockpiteers', an never ending stream of people asking questions and looking at our handy work.So busy in fact it wasnt until almost 5 in the evening that I realised I hadnt eaten anything since getting up in the morning !. Around 13:30ish we had a flyby of the BBMF Dak, who did three low passes over the field. That evening, the cockpiteers all sat around and we had a stupendous beef bbq and loads of drink, all provided by Flypast (a major sponsor of this event for past few years!). Saturday night I slept in the truck ! Sunday was another early start and more of the same as Saturday but this time we had three flybys of the BBMF Lancaster....mmmmmm, what a glorious sight and sound. Then it was the prize giving ceremony and group photo and the time to pack and drive home. In short, it was a frenetic weekend, very tiring, very satisfying and would I do it agian ?...too righty matey, allready planning next years trip !. OK, on with the pics. I'll only show the 'pits that arrived for the weekend and not the museum stock of airframes on this initial batch...I'lll show those pics later on. Heres the first batch, more to follow in a few minutes

| Wow Gary...awesome! Looks like alot of those 'pits were actual units removed from the aircraft...CHEATS! I saw yours there being displayed too, it's looking great...hopefully we get to see some more progress on it soon!

| One of the gems at Newark is this drop dead gorgeous Harvard (I thinks its DDG !). She just oozes character and history and I would dearly love to own her !. I would clean her up ...a damn good dusting wouldnt go amiss !...as she's been in storage for an awful long time and has only just seen the light of day, and leave her like she is. Thats right, no repaint, no nice shiny new instrument panels or seats, just some sympathetic TLC to stop her crumbling to bits. Interesting to note the UK grips on the control columns !. If anyones is interested, this link will get you to the Cockpitfest webiste that lists all the details of those planes that where here over the weekend. Go to the 'Previous fests link and there you go ! Cockpitfest incorporating the ICC And this link will take you to Newarks site. Thsi is a great museum ! Home Also at the event was Delta, who is owned by the Raptor Foundation. She was officially voted in as the Cockpitfest mascot a few years ago and each year comes along with a few of her fellow feathered brothers and sisters. She has got the most peircing yellow eyes I have ever seen. Final shots for this lot are my 51 pilot allthough he seems a bit grumpy through having to hold that flag all weekend !

| Well done mate. Must say, your Spittie is looking bl**dy good considering all the hard work you've put into it. Wonder what the glider pilot chappie was thinking in your Lancaster picture, when he looked down and saw that beaut wheeling around underneath him ?

| Brilliant stuff Gary and Tony, thanks for posting some great pics. Looked like I missed a great weekend - hopefully next year I'll make it! Tony, your Spit cockpit looks wonderfull, great job mate! I reckon Jan (Lucky) will now be dribbling into his Guinness with those superb Canberra pics. BTW, I think you should name the model P51 'pilot' Iziah - as one eye's higher than the other!
