| Geedee and Rocketeers Flying Legends Cooorrrrrrr ! Rightyho, Tony and I travelled upto to DX on Fri morning. Weather was overcast but warm but it did improve during the afternoon a bit. Not a lot of flying...to be expected really.... until The Horsemen turned up and brought the place to a standstill !. God... I love those guys !. Unfortunately, due to some unresolved issues, most of The Fighter Collection A/C where not out on the stataic, nor did they fly, spending the weekend penned in, in the TFC hangar. As a result of this, the static line up looked a bit thin on the ground, but hey-ho, there where some treasures in there. The weather on the sat improved as the day wore on and was pretty good today, offering a weekend of moody cloudscapes. I spent a lot of time playing with the camera settings (Wont tell you how many pics I took over the weekend !) and I've come to the conclusion that my zoom lens...a Canon 100-300...is letting me down. It was a 'cheapie' one ...think I paid around £125 for it new...but I just dont seem to be able to the pin sharp shots I want. I'd really like to get the Canon 100-400 allthough I've also heard that they can suffer from 'soft focus'. Whatever I end up with I'll no doubt wish I had something else. Did we enjoy it, yup, I reckon we did. Two highlights of the weekend, chatting to Jim, Ed, Dan of the Horsemen on the three days we where there, and seeing that 190 fly....Ohmygodwhatabeautifullnoise !!!!...and a climb rate that makes a homesick Angel look like its wearing divers boots. And did I say it was fast ?...too righty it was. Its a pity we never got to meet up with you guys from this here Forum, who went, but there where quite a few people at the event...d*mmit, even Tony and I resorted to using mobiles as we kept losing contact in the crowds. I will do a few seperate threads on the three museums at DX later during the week and I'll probably do a thread on the 190 on its own as I did a sort or walk-around for all you budding modellers out there....teehee. Tony will be adding aload of his shots in the next few days to this thread... wont you mate !. and we're looking forward to any that you guys want to show. Its late for me now...next to no sleep, too much sun (eventually !) and a severe lack of alco....food !, so heres a random selection oif shots from the weekend to give you a taster.I'll do the rest with more details.

| Two questions, Gary. Is that FW-190 a re-production or the real mccoy ? And, is that Steve Hinton standing by that Seafire ? [Is that a Seafire ?] OK, so it's three questions ! Charles

I thought it was Steve Hinton too. If its not he has a twin. He must have taken time off from Chino if it is him. All great pics, BTW. Wheels

| Morning guys. Yup thats the the man, Mr Steve Hinton. . He's a cracking bloke....when he finished putting his 'chute in the Fury, I caught his eye, by pointing to the camera, so Steve being Steve, makes a great play of licking his fingers and 'combing' his hair, then strikes a pose !. Had a a quick chat with him on the Friday morning when he got out of the chopper tha brought him into DX, What a genuine, all round pleasant guy, he is. The plane is a Sea Fury (one of two flying at Legends this year)l, and yes, its a big plane when you are close.

| I saw him at Chino this year but I couldn't get close enough to talk to him. He had several other people that had "corraled" him and he was taking the time to answer their questions. He had to go fly one of the planes before I was able to speak to him. Wheels

| Hi Gary Super shots. I am not suprised we never met a.to much time spent looking skywards and b. to many people. The only time I managered to meet any one was to set a time and place I met Mossie by the shackelton last year at Midday If you go again we'll have to do the same thing. in answer to your question CCheese The FW 190 is a repro powered by a Chinese copy of a Russian power plant and its still a prototype, it looked prity close to the real Mc Coy to me, I'll bash out a few snaps in my own thread not wishing to tread on Garys (dont expect as good as Garys though) |

| The WW1 boys consisted of 3 X DR 1 replicas (G-FOKI owned by M Boddington, G-CDXR owned by John Day and G-BVGZ owned by The Real Aeroplane Company ) and a Nieuport 17/23 replica (G-BWMJ owned by Bob Gauld-Gailliers) They did quite a smart little dipslay over the weekend, generally flying around at obscenely slow speeds and seeming to turn on the original 'six-pence / dime. Quite a different display to the WW2 boys who went wazzing around at anything upto 4 x the speed of this machines.
