    Aerial Bombs of WWII

Im a bit confused on the damage done by wwii aerial bombs. for example how much damage does a 220lb bomb do in comparison to a SC1000? This question got up because i was researching the CR.42s used by the luftwaffe. apparently they only had 220lb or 440lb max bomb loads. that doesnt seem like very much in comparison to the 2,000lb bomb load of late Allied fighter-bombers

For bombs of the same type it depends on the target. For soft targets, like troops in the open, the blast radius is not proportional to the size of the bomb. The heavy bomb is over kill and does not affect the "area" that an equal weight of smaller bombs will. For hard targets, bunkers and bridges and such, the small bomb may not have enough power to destroy it even given a direct hit while the big bomb does.

Channel 4 in the UK did a very interesting series called "Blitz Street" where they built a row of 1940s style houses and tested various size bombs against them
    Blitz Street - Channel 4

Gives you a good idea how devastating bombs were. Not sure if you can watch it but might be available on DVD or youtube.
