Flags of Our Fathers - Aircraft of World War II

I just finished reading the book, and it is easily one of the best war books I have ever read. It is also the only book I have ever read that made me tear up. The movie is a pretty good representation of it but as always you must read the book to get the full commentary and effect. I'd highly recommend it for anyone on this website.

"Flyboys" is an outstanding book. I just find it so hard to believe that the
Japanese would eat their prisoners. That just blows me away. No pun
intended.

The canabalisim parts grossed me out.

Actually, I never got to finish the book. Next time I have time to wait in Barnes & Noble maybe.

I was amazed at what the Japanese did on Iwo Jima, but I hadn't heard the cannibalism bit. Every army commits atrocities but the Japanese were particularly bad. What is the premise of "Flyboys"?

There is also evidence to suggest that the Japanese were eating dead Australian soldiers during the Kokoda Track Campaign back in '42. Terrible stuff.

Aggie08: "Flyboys" deals with eight US airman who were shot down in
the vicinity of Chichi Jima, an island just a bit closer to Japan than Iwo
Jima. It had a large radio station there that would give Japan two hours
warning of impending raids. The story deals with these eight airman and
their captors.
