    Need Help: Badge ID?

Again, my pre-wife's best friend is still trying to search info on items from her relatives service in WWII. This is the latest and what she wrote to me.....

Roger's Father was a mechanic in Saipan. He still has his uniform jacket and wool over coat. He was squadron 497th Bombardment Group, worked on 871st Bombardment Squadron planes. I am sending you a patch we cannot identify. See if you know what it is..it's the one that looks like ivy.
    Any help?

Possibly a rank badge? In the RAF, a wreath with a crown inside it denoted a Warrant Officer and, in the British Army, a Sergeant Major.

Chris, if that's a U.S. army uniform, the wreath denotes a "Distinguished Unit" during the Italian Campaign and the wearer is a member of that particular Distinguished Unit.

That distinction may have also been used in other theaters as well
