    Need Help: Goering's Sabre

My pre-wife's best friend just asked me to help her. Here is the story.

Her father was in the US 82nd and jumped into Normandy. At some point he was captured and spent a part of the war as a POW. When he came home, he brought home this sabre. According to her, her dad stated it was Goering's sabre. She said she has been able to track it to the town that Goering spent some time in. I have not seen the sabre but she sent me these pics.

Apparently the lettering in part reads "Solingen" which I have found is the City of Blades - known for making edged weapons for a long time. She claims that other lettering spells "Wlaszlow" which I can find nothing.

Does anyone know more about these type of sabres or can help in identifying it?

When we go into battle, we play music very loud. It kind of... calms us down."

Don't know how helpful it's gonna be, but I can tell you this much by looking at the close up photo showing the emblems - standing lion is Czech national symbol while double cross on a hill is Slovakian national symbol.

Also two headed eagle is the symbol of Austria. Maybe this sabre is somehow connected to Habsburg Empire since all this countries were part of it. Just guessing here...

Chris, I did a little looking around and these are all the photos of Goering I found with a visible sword. The first 2 look the closest, but that's not it. The rest are WWII era and don't even look close.

    I think I'm getting closer!!

The word is "Wlaszlovitz" and this may be a Slovak Army Sword!

Probably one of many sold to GI's as "Goerings" or "Hitlers" swords, just to drum up some extra income. Still, a nice lookin blade!
