| War time Polish priest dies
Father Adam Studzinski, a Dominican who served as chaplain of the Polish forces in the West during World War Two, has died in Krakow at the age of ninety seven.
Ordained a priest in 1937, he served with the Polish forces in Palestine and, having joined the army, took part in the Italian campaign, including the Battle of Monte Cassino.
Father Adam Studzinski held many high Polish military and state distinctions, including the Virtuti Militari, the Cross of Valour and the Order of Reborn Poland, as well as British military honours.
After the war, he studied art conservation at the Fine Arts Academy in Krakow and worked on the renovation of the Dominican monastery and St Guy's Church in the city.
One of the best-known figures in Krakow, in 1999 he was made its honorary citizen. In 2006 he was promoted to the rank of general. He wrote a book about of his war-time reminiscences and a guide to Polish war cemeteries in Italy.
