WWII Memorial - Gainsville Texas

During a long highway trip, I stopped at a rest area for a "get out and stretch" break. My wife said, "Hey, look at this!" I had to take a few pics..........

Outstanding post. Many thanks. The head football coach at Gainsville high in the early sixties was Buddy Ryan of Da Bears fame, just as an aside. The Chisholm Trail ran close by there also.

Great series of photos, Thor!

Thanks for grabbing the history parts, too!

...thought "Nuts!" McAuliffe was 501st PIR?

Not to slight the memorial, that's not my intent.

After the Battle of the Bulge, McAuliffe was given command of the 103rd Infantry Division which he led from January 15, 1945 to July, 1945.

Nice pics Thor!
