    Martin JRM-1 Mars

    Ahoy
Here is another of my vast collections I built this one from scrach 1/48 scale 50 inch wingspan. this is the Glenn Martin model 170 The Martin JRM Mars flyingboat she was the 747 of the 1940,s. had a span of 200ft. even by todays standards she is a big plane. At the time she was the largest propeeler driven aircraft in the world. She can carry up to 300 personal plus crew. I have built to two Martin Mars examples I will show here. The first model 170 was designated as the PBM2-R1 Mars splendered a twin rudder layout almost in the same perspective as her predisessor the Martin PBM Mariner. different hull design and wings, By wars enf Glenn Martin redesigned her and she was retrofitted with one large single fin upgraded fuselage and wings. In 1956 with the event of jet power and no need for flyingboats the Martin Mars was stricken from the naval register and sold as scrap. although it was layed up for 2 decades preserved. The Canadian Forrest Industries inquired her as a borate bomber for fighting forrest fires Three Mars boats were sold to Canada only two boats are left. One was destroyed on forrest fire mission got to low to the ground and she ground looped and crashed and burned killin all crew memebers. today in sproat Lake canada 2 Mars boats are still active and can be reviewed these are truely large aircraft Here are my 2 Martin Mars models.
