Thanks Darren. Work calls....away for the next seven days. Back at it next Wednesday to attach the wings. Something I noticed while looking at the aircraft in formation, the camo seems to be lighter than the roundel and prop colour. Might be a play of light thing...I dunno.

Yeah, I noticed that too. As you said it might be lighting. The roundel may be painted in a flatter type paint than the fuselage so it wouldn't have reflected as much light. Consequently it would appear to be a darker shade of blue.

I'll be back in a week to check on your progress... :salute:

Not much progress I'm afraid. I pinched my sciatic nerve on my second nightshift and was barely able to walk for the next two nights. When I was operating the 16 on the third night, I had to use both hands to lift my leg up to the inching pedal. This is like a clutch in a car or truck and is used to start off and to shift from forward to reverse. My model room is downstairs and it was hard to negotiate stairs for the first day off. Day two off and it was like nothing had ever been wrong, however..........that night I absolutely crushed my pinky toe into a non-movable bed post. Swelling has finally gone down enough for me to get back to it. Wings is on...

I'm going to attach the rudder and then put this on hold. As mentioned earlier, I'm sure I have a book that has another shot of what is said to be a black Hellcat on the ground. If I can't find it this will become a plain old boring blue one

looks good.

Not getting back to this one yet but whilst searching for something else I came across a site RN escort carriers and there was the same photo Andy posted a while ago and the caption stated that my aircraft was painted "Shipyard Blue" A shufti through the webs found no named paint but there was a variety of blues used during WW2. Anyone heard of this paint or know the RN colour system?

Hi George,

Hope this finds you feeling a good bit better - take care and enjoy the hobby when the opportunity arises.

I had to drop my Hellcat research some years ago when other requirements became more important. As a result, I was never able to pin down just when the ANA 623 Glossy Sea Blue scheme was introduced. While working on the Corsair I found that earlier aircraft could occasionally be delivered in later colors or configurations. I don't know if that's what happened here, or if the aircraft you're building was repainted some local color by the Brits. For what it's worth, here's a factory shot of Hellcat IIs wearing the same Glossy Sea Blue as their USN counterparts. Perhaps a few Mark Is wore the same colors.

Best with the project - hope the next few weeks aren't too rough...

Cheers,

Dana
