Really starting to come alive now Dwight.... Great stuff man..

Thanks Dan. :)

Well the dreaded carpet monster struck. I had just finished painting the MG that goes into the port side wing slot when SPROING! Damn thing popped out and the carpet ate it. Spent about 30 minutes looking for it - no luck. Only thing to do is to make a new one from scratch. The piece that was lost had a two step diameter - the back piece was thicker with a sudden step to a narrower bore at the front. So I grabbed some solid plastic rod (0.040" / 1 mm) and did a test fit into the gun slot. Fits perfectly. Then I drilled it out with my pin vise (using a #76 drill - 0.020") . I cut off a piece of hypodermic tubing (0.45 mm OD) and inserted into the drilled out rod. Now all I have to do is square off the end of the drilled out rod slightly, superglue the hypo tubing into place and cut the outer plastic rod to the correct lengh. Voila! New gun barrel. Although the replacement is not to scale, it is actually a little closer to scale than the original was. :)

Beautifully done Dwight!!Once the decals start going on she will really start coming alive :thumbleft: Cheers Kevin

Thanks Terry, Evan, DB, Andy and Kevin. :)

Andy, I got mine from a very good friend as the local pharmacies will NOT sell it over the counter. :)

BUT you might try one of the following places:

McMaster-Carr

Medical Needles | Stainless Steel Tubing Fabrication - Vita Needle Co.

SmallParts.com: The Hardware Store for Researchers and Developers

I've never bought directly from them but they look like they have exactly the right sizes. See below for a conversion chart for scales.

There is also a company from Spain called Minimeca Espanola that specializes in small diameter stainless steel rod and tubing. They also have .2mm wire that can be used for rigging WWI aircraft with great success. This can be found at some hobby shops (although I have NEVER seen it).

Thanks Dwight!

You're welcome Andy.

Gloss coat goes on first thing this morning. I think I'm going to JUST run out of time on this one since I need to allow 48 hours for that coat to dry and then get the matt coat on after the decals.

Everything else is finished though (except for repaiting that recoil tube which I am saving for last).

Here's the latest shot:
