I saw that - it seems they dropped the charges against him while he was under duress. I would still try to sue, ignorant government silly servants!

What were they smoking? Maybe some of Maj T.J. Kong's ceeeegars?

i particularly love how someone wanted to to shoot him down!! i think a can of worms has been opened that wont go away easily. yes i would sue too...everybody involved!

He circled a nuclear power plant. They are worried about terrorist activity that, quite frankly, could come in any form. Twenty years ago who would have thought that some idiot would try to blow up a plane using explosives in his shoe? Or hide them in his underwear? Or Kamikazi into buildings? It must be mind boggling to try and anticipate what next crazy thing some "true-believer" whack job is going to try. In any case when they found out the true circumstances, they dropped the charges. He didn't get sent to Gitmo because eventually the truth won out.
Imagine the hue and cry if he indeed had been a whack job that did bomb or crash explosives into that power plant?

Gliders circle when they get in a thermal, that's how they gain altitude. If the power plant was a no fly zone, it should have been marked on the sectional.
Anyone in charge of security of a nuclear power plant should have enough general knowledge ( common sense) to know a glider could not carry enough explosive to breach the hardened structure around the power plant. They're so overbuilt even a typical WW2 Kamikaze wouldn't be able to endanger the nuclear core.
If the powerplant was that concerned about any fly overs then they should have notified the FAA years ago, so the charts could be marked accordingly.

well .... actually did some digging and there is a NOTAM but it is pretty loosely worded.

Blanket notams
9/5151 (#12): Sporting Events

even though it is "STRONGLY ADVISED" i think they couldhave handled it way better than then did. i agree with meatloaf' statement that you can never say its 100% not an attack when it comes to security. BUT they sent up a chace plane....and they were in radio communication....it didnt have to be a keystone cop caper. even in security issues you have to be professional....

Ah yes, "in the interests of National Security" what a wonderful blanket phrase which can be used to cover anything

IN THE INTERST OF NATIONAL SECURITY:
First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the socialists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the jews,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for the catholics,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a catholic.

Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.

There were no TFR or restricted airspace symbology above the powerplant on any current sectional chart. The LE officials who threw this guy in jail are not only extremely ignorant but acted like Hitler youths in training. I would SUE, SUE SUE!!!! These folks are the dumbest of the dumb and the scary part is some of them are carrying guns! If a LE official ever threatened to shoot me down, well he better hope I never find where his home is located - it's amazing how large bird turds could be when they are splattered all over your roof and driveway!

I love how the best they could come up with was "Breech of Peace" which is pretty much a "catch-all"...

So then technically speaking, if I don't use my turn signal when making a right turn, I've committed a "Breech of Peace".
I call bullsh!t on the gestapo tactics, we are still, after all, the U.S.

He needs to sue them and start a media blitz.

Yeah...breach of the peace...in a GLIDER! That's about as peaceful as it gets from an aviation perspective!

Anyone know a couple of F-15E jocks who would be willing to come in fast and low with the burners in, and then tip to the vertical right next to the powerplant? Then they'd learn the meaning of "breach of the peace".
