Hi All,

I'm building the Ertl/AMT Douglas A-20C Boston and Revel's Lockheed Ventura II at the same time. I'm building them to go with my Mosquito B IV - these are the three aircraft types that took part in Operation Oyster - the attack on the Philips Works at Eindhoven in 1942.

I have a whole pile of 3rd party goodies to go with these kits - cockpits, engines etc so lots of building ahead.

Thanks, guys,

The building has already started as part of a group build on Facebook #Brit48 . I'm not too far advanced with the builds, but will bring them up to date in a few posts. Those of you with a keen eye will also notice a Pratt and Whitney Wasp R-945 as well as the R-2600 (Boston) and R-2800 (Ventura). Also got a part built Beech 18 to finish off, as well. That may get occasional pictures thrown in, too.

Hi All,

Work continues on the P&W R-2600. One's complete, but still have the plug leads to do on the other.

Hi All,
A load of bits and pieces done on the Ventura. Cockpit and bomb-aimers compartment are about done. Also stuck the tail feathers together and tried everything to see how well it all fitted together.

The Boston's used by 88, 107 and 226 in the raid were all Boston III's (W, Z and AL serial batch) with short carby intake and single exhaust outlet on the older style engine cowl not the later multi exhaust outlet out the back of the cowl flaps like on the later Boston IIIA (A-20C's), The Boston IIIA's didn't came into Sqn use till 1943. Like this RH-F of 88 Sqn

Thanks again, Sydhuey - didn't realise about the carb intake and I have to admit wasn't 100% sure about the exhausts, either. One other thing I'm uncertain about - the cowl flaps - they don't seem to be fitted to early Mk III's - am I correct?

Cheers,
Neil

The Boston III has cowl flaps they are just flat not corrugated to allow the exhaust stubs like on the A-20C etc.
You can see them open on this Boston that Belly landed, also the old short intake.
