My Dad and his CASU 17 group landed on (Betio)Tarawa with their old 1903's to back up the Marines (if needed) who were still fighting, I believe Nov. 23-24-1943. I know from his "notes", they had "Thanksgiving" dinner (11-25-43) on the atoll. Like most men, he didn't talk about it for almost 60 years and even then...not much. Long before PTSD
