I am hoping to model a Mk 1 Lancaster of 207 Squadron RAF in Mid 1942, The reason being that my wifes' uncle was lost in one, being shot down by a German night fighter ace named Wittgenstein.
Some colour photographs from the period show these letters to be in off-white or grey rather than the usual red.
Does anyone know more about this colour?
Many thanks,
Brian

Many thanks Wurger & Buffnut, very helpful information.

FowellBox how did the model turn out? My father's cousin went down in R5695 EMC on 25 November 42. Which raid/aircraft was your wife's uncle in the night he died?

G GermParkyn Lancaster 1 R5695 EM-G

Thx, based on what source? 207 Squadron ORB indicates W4164 flew as EMG on 17 October 42, and R5695 flew as EMC on the same mission to Le Creusot. Although these images are fuzzy, others more clearly repeatedly refer to W4164 as G and R5695 as C.
