That was my point - yes, one might turn the F4U-4 into -5, since the internals were left very much the same. Kinda turning of the P-51B into D, or Spit VIII into XIV. Not applicable with the P-51D trying to became P-51H.

The -5 Corsairs were dropped by Navy because they used more electrical relays which got corroded at sea! Reverted back to -4

The -5's were needed as night-fighters. Most deployed were F4U-5N.
