probably every chef and member of service staff has seen just as much, unfortunately mate !
Yes, getting your meal times sorted is pretty basic with travel and Hotel living! Of course, many large Hotels have food available 24/7 but you need to be more aware at smaller or more specialist establishments! A good tip for eating or drinking where someone is preparing your food is to always be courteous and friendly with the staff. Many pushy, discourteous or unpleasant customers have had more than they bargained for in their food or drink!

probably the most spiteful and petty thing i have seen.

guy comes down for breakfast one Sunday morning, orders a full English breakfast and an eggs Benedict, gets 2 coffees, visits the cold buffet for patries, fruit etc.

sits down and mixes yogurt in with the fruit, tears up the pastries, his hot breakfasts are served, no sign of his wife yet though.
he proceeds to chop up the eggs Benedict without eating any of it, swaps plates and does the same with the full English and then walks out, without eating or drinking anything, his wife never even showed up.

young girl serving that day is totally baffled as she tells me what has happened.

i get receptionist to ask him if there was a problem at breakfast as they check out.

"no problem, just we had pre payed for breakfast but drank too much at the wedding last night so couldn't face eating anything but i wanted to make sure i got my moneys worth"

very sad !
Sick! 👎👎

can hand on heart say i have never ever done anything like that !

though i do have a story about that sort of thing........

had a guy on a long term stay with us for his work, he thought the best way to get what you want was to be abusive and angry with the staff.
his complaints got worse as nobody wanted to serve him every morning on breakfast, so he always got left waiting to be served.

he ate smoked haddock and poached egg everyday for his breakfast and every day there was an issue, too small, over done, under done, wrong shape, basically we couldn't please him.

it got to the point where we all stopped trying and he got the crappiest service, the smallest piece of haddock etc.

one day i was on breakfast and when his order came in it came with a remark something like "let's see what a mess the chef can make of it today !"
so i gave him the shittiest piece of haddock i could find.

just after breakfast i was behind reception and he sees me and comes over to complain, he'd already complained to the reception staff, the duty manager and the housekeeper by this point.

i took his abuse and went back to the kitchen, as i went through the door from the corridor to the kitchen i said " what an arsehole that guy is ".

what i didn't see was he had followed me to continue his tirade, "shit"

we ended up in the GM's office(he was also the owner of the hotel), i get a bollocking for calling a customer names while he sits looking smug.

next morning he doesn't come down for breakfast and we never see him again.

turns out the Boss had received enough complaints from staff about this guy and was giving him enough rope to hang himself and then informed his company they had to find him alternative accommodation as he wasn't welcome here anymore.

way back when.
the hotel i worked in still did a dessert trolley, i was pastry chef at the time so i would make full size cakes etc that were wheeled up to guests tables on the trolley for them to choose from.

i had a commis chef working for me for a while and i had made some large strawberry gateaux and explained to him he needed to finish them by spreading whipped cream round the sides, toast some almond flakes then stick them on the sides of the cakes, sounds simple enough right ?

i go off to do other stuff and a while later he comes to me "chef the almonds wont stick to the cream on the sides of the cakes and now its all ran off !

i go to see what he is going on about to find a workbench covered in melted cream and burnt almonds "what the f##k ?" i shouted

turns out he covered the cakes in whipped cream, toasted the almonds and tried to stick them on whilst still hot !
when they melted the cream he toasted them again and repeated the process with the same results, 3rd time the almonds were decidedly over done but he persisted and we were down to the last 2 litres of cream so he thought it best to ask for advice.

guy checks in and goes to his room, less than hour later he's at reception checking out, looking very upset, clearly dressed in great hurry, hair still wet from a shower.

"cant stay in there its haunted" he say as he runs off !

as he got out of the shower and entered the bedroom he noticed all the drawers in the unit against one of the walls were open and they were closed when he went into the bathroom !

we had a large wedding on one saturday, did 15-16 hour shift was back at work by 05.30 next morning for 100+ guests for breakfast.
i entered the hotel to find a guest still in his wedding attire (brides son) stood in reception, on my left behind the desk was the 2 night porters, event manager and the golf course green keeper, bit odd i thought but carried on to the fingerprint scanner to clock in to work.

guest shouts "oy chef make me a f###ing bacon sandwich !"

now its early i'd already worked too much the day before for this guys family so was in no mood for pleasantries.

" go to bed dickhead" i called back and went into the kitchen to start the prep for the coming breakfast onslaught.

an hour later the restaurant manager runs in picks up my phone and calls the police.

turns out this guy had came into the kitchen after we all left the night before picked up a knife and attacked one of the night porters cutting him slightly, (luckily the knife he found was a very flexible and very blunt fish filleting knife), he had then been holding everyone hostage behind reception as they arrived for work !

why he let me through i dont know but i was furious they didnt manage to alert me and felt real guilt for not doing anything.

police arrived tasered him and carted him off to the station.

still dont know why he did it

Being retired figured get nice easy job, see an add for Walmart greeter. Thinking an easy job for a retired fellow got the job after the interview with a young lady who was younger than number of years put in as a nurse in a psych ward. First day was going well until a grumpy woman comes in dragging and yelling at her 2 young kids. I asked her are they twins? She angrily stated are you stupid? Can't you see they are different sizes and look different? Actually I did notice but really having a difficult time thinking someone slept with you twice.
Currently looking for a new job

when i was a chef de partie, many years ago, i told my head chef "when i have your job i wont be working sundays and i wont be making sandwiches ever again !"

oh how he laughed.

so this morning started work at 05.30 (90 minutes early so i could get all the breakfast prep done early and so at 07.00 hrs i was at work making 100's of sandwiches for a buffet before the breakfast rush started !
